Virago and Emily
I was ridiculously excited this morning when I heard that Virago Press, one of my favourite publishers, will be reprinting L.M. Montgomery’s Emily books. I have to admit, these are not the Montgomery’s that I return to again and again for a good comfort read – that would be either the Anne series or the totally under-appreciated Pat series. But I know I’ll be snapping up these gorgeous books this autumn and having a lovely time rediscovering them with a steaming cup of tea.

Those covers are gorgeous! And yeah, they’re not my favorite LMM’s either, though I still think the description of Emily’s “flash” come closest to what I have occasionally experienced creatively, but Teddy’s mother and Dean both creeped me out so much in my childhood that I haven’t reread the whole series again since. Might have to remedy that this year. We should have a winter read-along. 🙂
And I love Pat, but it’s Jane who is my forever second favorite. (Nobody will top Anne for me, of course.)
I’m totally up for a winter read-along! It’s just the kind of gentle winter story that would work for train rides and snatched moments before bed.
I do love Jane, in some ways for the same reason I love the Pat books…that fierce love of home and desire to make it beautiful and welcoming for people they love.
